Chloé Eyewear: a Parisian fashion house founded in 1952

Chloé eyewear embodies, in an everyday accessory, the effortless elegance of a Parisian fashion house founded in 1952 by Gaby Aghion.

Chloé eyewear embodies, in an everyday accessory, the effortless elegance of a Parisian fashion house founded in 1952 by Gaby Aghion. The designer wanted a modern style that was less formal than traditional haute couture. This idea has remained central to Chloé’s identity and is reflected today in its eyewear collections, where the shapes, curves and combinations of materials convey a contemporary and instantly recognisable femininity. Our selection brings together Chloé prescription glasses and sunglasses, in acetate or metal, with designs ranging from rounded shapes to more structured silhouettes. The balance between softness and structure, the interplay of volumes and the attention to detail form the common thread running through the collection.

Who founded Chloé and when?

The story of Chloé began in 1952, when Gaby Aghion created her first collection. The designer sought an alternative to the rigidity of haute couture: an elegant, modern and more free-spirited wardrobe, crafted from beautiful fabrics and with particular attention to detail. This vision made Chloé one of the first luxury houses to develop a genuine ready-to-wear approach. In 1957, Gaby Aghion organised the first Chloé fashion show at the Café de Flore in Paris. Subsequent shows took place in various cafés on the Left Bank, in a setting associated with Parisian artistic and cultural life.

From Karl Lagerfeld to Chemena Kamali: the designers at Chloé

The brand’s history is also characterised by its ability to nurture new talent. Karl Lagerfeld worked at Chloé from the 1960s onwards, before other designers went on to help evolve its style over the decades. Chloé is now continuing this story under the creative direction of Chemena Kamali, who was appointed in 2023. Her return holds special significance: she had previously worked at the fashion house alongside Phoebe Philo, and later Clare Waight Keller.

What are the Chloé eyewear ranges?

Chloé Eyewear translates the principles that characterise the House into an everyday accessory: a balance between softness and structure, attention to volume and the pursuit of contemporary femininity. Moreover, the collections are not based on a single frame shape — round, square, rectangular, aviator or more wraparound silhouettes coexist across the different lines and seasons. In the optical range, the collections are organised around the Aly, Marcie, Judy, Gayia, Salomé and Chloé Iconic lines. In the sunglasses range, we find Aly, Holly, Judy, Marcie, Salomé and Chloé Iconic, alongside Chloé Wavy and Uma, a metal line with a more assertive look. There are therefore several ranges in both categories, allowing for a consistent aesthetic across both prescription and sunglasses collections. Some draw on vintage inspiration, whilst others take a more contemporary approach: the collections combine historical references from the Chloé world with new interpretations, and vary according to the seasons and markets.

Acetate or metal: the materials used for Chloé frames

Acetate plays a prominent role in Chloé’s eyewear collections: the material allows for the creation of different volumes, levels of transparency and colour variations. Metal is used in other ranges to achieve sleeker designs. Some models combine several materials to create a contrast between the frame structure and the temples. Finally, the details play an important role: on certain Holly sunglasses, Chloé combines an acetate frame with gold-coloured metal elements and temples engraved with the brand’s logo.

Chloé prescription glasses or sunglasses?

Prescription glasses play a significant role in the brand’s range, with frames that reinterpret certain styles and shapes from its design universe. Sunglasses, on the other hand, allow the brand to explore bolder silhouettes and a particularly wide range of shapes. The choice between the two depends primarily on the desired shape, the proportions of the face, any required prescription and everyday use. For a pair worn every day, a well-balanced prescription frame that suits the requirements of the prescription is generally the most versatile choice. At Olivia Balm, the selection allows you to compare different Chloé styles and choose a frame to suit both your personal style and your optical needs.

Why choose Chloé glasses?

Choosing Chloé means looking for a pair of glasses that is more than just a logo. The collections embody the identity of a fashion house whose history, dating back to the 1950s, is rooted in a freer and more contemporary conception of elegance. The different ranges allow you to explore various interpretations of this world: soft, rounded frames, more structured shapes, delicate metal designs or chunky acetate frames. The selection available at Olivia Balm varies according to the designs offered by the brand and stock availability. For prescription glasses, the compatibility of a frame with a particular prescription must be checked before the lenses are made. The team of opticians at Olivia Balm can help you with this choice.

Frequently asked questions about Chloé glasses

  • Q: How much do Chloé glasses cost?

A: From €179 to €279 for a prescription frame and from €239 to €379 for a pair of sunglasses (frame only). For a pair of prescription glasses, the cost of the lenses must be added, the price of which varies depending on the prescription strength and any desired treatments. We’ll provide a total quote before you place your order.

  • Q: Is Chloé a luxury brand?

A: Yes. Founded in Paris in 1952 by Gaby Aghion, Chloé was one of the first luxury fashion houses to develop a genuine ready-to-wear approach, and it remains part of this sector. Its eyewear collections are very much in keeping with this tradition, both in terms of the craftsmanship involved in working with acetate and metal and the attention to detail.

  • Q: Who is the creative director at Chloé?

A: Chemena Kamali, appointed in 2023. She had previously worked at the fashion house alongside Phoebe Philo, and later Clare Waight Keller, before taking over as creative director. She follows in the footsteps of a line of designers that includes Karl Lagerfeld, who joined Chloé in the 1960s.

  • Q: What materials are used for Chloé glasses?

A: Mainly acetate and metal. Acetate is used to create volume, transparency and colour variations; metal allows for more delicate designs. Some models combine the two to create a contrast between the front and the temples, sometimes complemented by gold-coloured elements or temples engraved with the brand’s logo.

  • Q: Does Chloé offer prescription glasses and sunglasses?

A: Both. The optical collection is centred around the Aly, Marcie, Judy, Gayia, Salomé and Chloé Iconic ranges. The sunglasses collection includes some of these ranges and adds Holly, Chloé Wavy and Uma. Several ranges therefore feature in both collections, with different interpretations depending on their intended use.

  • Q: Are there any Chloé glasses for men?

A: No, our Chloé selection is exclusively for women, which reflects the brand’s positioning. For a men’s range in a comparable price bracket, look to Montblanc or Alexander McQueen.

  • Q: Where can I buy Chloé glasses?

A: Chloé glasses available from Olivia Balm can be viewed and ordered online, depending on the models on offer, with delivery throughout the European Union. Our opticians are available to check the fit of a model and the feasibility of fitting corrective lenses before you place your order.
