The ritual

A flawless clean, step by step

A quick procedure for a spotless result, free of micro-scratches.

  1. i.

    Rinse with cold, clear water

Wash away dust and abrasive particles. Avoid hot water, which can damage some surface coatings.

  2. ii.

    Apply a suitable solution

A spray cleaner designed for lenses, or a mild pH-neutral soap (Marseille soap). Steer clear of alcohol and ammonia, and avoid washing-up liquid.

  3. iii.

    Dry with a microfibre cloth

Dry and polish with a clean microfibre cloth. Wash your microfibres regularly, without fabric softener or conditioner.

  4. iv.

    Check the details

Inspect the rim, the bridge and the hinges. Gently remove any residue without forcing.

Nettoyage des verres avec un chiffon microfibre
A clean microfibre prevents micro-scratches and restores brightness to your lenses. Keep one in your case at all times.
Day to day

Three reflexes that change everything

Small habits protect your glasses for the long term.

Use both hands

Take off and put on your glasses with both hands to preserve hinge balance and keep them symmetrical.

Always in their case

Use a hard case when you are not wearing your glasses. Slip the microfibre inside so it is always to hand.

The quick refresh

A clean microfibre is enough to dust them between deeper cleans. Wash it regularly so it doesn't leave streaks.

The opposite

What to avoid at all costs

A few common mistakes can shorten the life of your lenses.

Excessive heat

Dashboards, radiators, saunas. Heat warps the frame and degrades anti-reflective or blue-light coatings.

Household products

Alcohol, acetone, window cleaner. They dissolve the surface coatings and leave permanent halos.

Dry wiping

Clothing, tissues, jumper sleeves. The micro-particles trapped in the fibres scratch the lenses within a few wipes.

Protection

Choose the right refuge

Three accessories, three uses. Match them to your habits.

Hard case

Hard case

Your best ally against knocks and crushing. Slip the microfibre inside to keep it clean.

Soft pouch

Soft pouch

Ideal for a light bag. Protects from scratches and is easier to carry — less bulky than a hard case.

Desk stand

Desk stand

Avoids placing lenses face down, limits drops and keeps your glasses within reach while you work.

Other optical equipment

Same principles, with a few nuances depending on the equipment.

Nettoyage par ultrason

Ultrasonic bath

Highly effective for clearing hinges. Use occasionally, following your device's instructions.

Lunettes solaires

Sunglasses

Rinse with cold, clear water after the beach (salt/sand), then pat dry gently. Avoid direct heat in the car.

Lunettes anti-lumière bleue

Blue-light glasses

Same procedure. Gentle water cleaning, clean microfibre. Avoid exposure to high heat and solvents.

Jumelles et optiques

Binoculars & optics

Blow off the dust, use a very soft brush and lens-specific wipes for the optics.

Frequently asked questions

Your doubts, our answers

The questions we are asked most often in the boutique.

How often should I clean my lenses?

Ideally every day if you wear them regularly. A quick rinse followed by a microfibre wipe is usually enough.

Are pre-moistened wipes safe?

Yes, if they are designed for optical lenses. Avoid household or alcohol-based wipes, which dissolve surface coatings.

How can I prevent fogging?

Use a dedicated anti-fog spray or gel. Apply on perfectly clean lenses, following the manufacturer's instructions.

My screws keep coming loose, what should I do?

A visit to the boutique allows for precise tightening and fitting — free of charge for Olivia Balm customers. Avoid forcing them without a proper screwdriver.
