100% Santé offer

The 100% Santé reform allows anyone covered by the French national health insurance and a so-called "responsible" complementary health contract to receive eyewear at no out-of-pocket cost. What is it?

The 100% Santé reform (sometimes called "RAC 0" for "Reste à Charge zéro", zero remaining charge) was rolled out progressively in France between 2019 and 2021. It has been fully effective for optical equipment since 1^st January 2020.

In practice, for the optical sector, the reform stipulates that part of the offer — known as the "100% Santé basket" or "class A" — is fully reimbursed by the combination of compulsory national health insurance and a responsible complementary health contract. The insured pays nothing, provided eligibility conditions are met.

Eligibility conditions

Hold a valid medical prescription issued by an ophthalmologist or an authorised optician (renewal). Validity is 5 years for adults aged 16 to 42, 3 years from age 42, and 1 year for children under 16.
Be covered by a complementary health contract qualified as "responsible and solidarity-based", which represents the vast majority of individual and group contracts in France. Details appear on your entitlement statement.
Choose an equipment (frame + lenses) belonging to the 100% Santé basket, identified by the class A code in the LPP nomenclature (List of Reimbursable Products and Services).

Equipment covered

The optical 100% Santé basket comprises a frame and corrective lenses meeting the technical specifications set by the French authorities.

Frames

Maximum regulated retail price of €30. Every optician in France must offer at least 17 adult frame models (10 children's models) meeting the 100% Santé criteria, in a variety of colours.

Lenses

Single-vision or progressive class A lenses, with anti-reflective and anti-scratch coatings, thinned according to prescription strength. They cover all corrections up to –6.00 / +6.00 dioptres sphere and 4.00 cylinder.

You remain free to choose equipment outside the 100% Santé basket (so-called "class B" or free-pricing basket): in that case, reimbursement by social security and your complementary cover depends on your contract. Olivia Balm always tells you the amount remaining at your charge before placing any order.

Renewal period

Renewing 100% Santé equipment is regulated:

2 years for adults aged 16 and over.
1 year for children aged 6 to 16.
6 months for children under 6.
Early renewal is possible if your vision has changed and the change is supported by a new medical prescription.

Your questions, our answers

Does 100% Santé also cover sunglasses?

The 100% Santé scheme applies to corrective optical equipment (prescription glasses). Non-prescription sunglasses are not covered. Sunglasses with corrective lenses may be eligible if they meet the class A basket criteria.

Can I mix class A and class B?

Yes. "Mix-and-match" is allowed: for example a class A frame (100% reimbursed) with class B lenses (free pricing, reimbursement depending on your complementary contract). Olivia Balm provides a detailed quote before any order is placed.

What do I need to bring to benefit from the offer?

Your valid prescription, your Carte Vitale and your complementary health entitlement statement. We handle the tiers payant (full or partial direct billing, depending on the agreement) so you don't have to pay upfront.

What if I need a very strong correction?

Class A lenses from the 100% Santé basket cover everyday corrections up to –6.00 / +6.00 dioptres sphere and 4.00 cylinder. Beyond that, we offer technically suitable class B equipment, with reimbursement depending on your contract.
